My girls are my life

I love school holidays. I get to spend time with my girls. And on days when I hang out w my friends instead, my girls are home enjoying each other's company. Of course they bicker. That's to be expected. Hahaha. But they do play well together.

I try my best to bring my kids out .. Go to the zoo, the malls, the parks and library. This December however, the girls spent almost 2 weeks down with the flu. And with our upcoming cruise happening next week, aside from the malls, birthday parties and a leisurely walk on the Helix Bridge towards MBS, we have yet to go to the zoo and the library. They have been reading at home. And having Chinese tuition. And we've met up w dear dear friends for play dates. Ok, that's not too bad.

Here's some pictures of our holiday so far.

Multi-uses

One thing I always like to tell my friends with small kids is .. "Train your kids to throw up in a bucket" .. Ideally, his little beach bucket. It's small, portable and because its colorful .. It's somehow more acceptable for them to want to puke up into it.

From a certain age, toddlers who fall sick and end up coughing .. Inevitably end up puking from all the coughing. And there is nothing worse than puke either all over the floor, the bed or the worst .. in the car.

Plastic bags just don't cut it. I usually use the plastic bag to line the bucket and get my coughing kid to hold it or just keep it handy while traveling in the car. Then if the inevitable happens, the bag can just be thrown away .. And the bucket is clean to be used again with another plastic bag liner.

Come on, I'm clever ok?! I've saved myself and my maid countless times of clean ups .. Cos face it, when your kid wants to puke ... 9 out of 10 times, they are never going to make it to the bathroom in time. Trust me. As adults we barely make it there and even then, it's usually because we recognize the warning signs of a possible throw up. Kids? Not a chance.

Ok, my kids are all generally not pukey .. Except maybe Emily. She has a tendency to cough and she is asthmatic as well. So she has her own bucket which is always on her bed next to her IN CASE. Hey, I'd rather that .. Than having to wake up at 4 am to clean up a puked-fill bed.

Initially, your toddler or child will be against the idea. Which I don't understand really. They'll push the bucket away .. But just persist and explain that it's better than a dirty floor or bed. I guarantee you'll have an easier time with your sick child the next time. They will automatically wake up from sleep and reach for that bucket should the need arise. I haven't had to deal with dirty bed sheets for years. Even with 5 kids. And I don't worry about puking in my car as well. If someone has a cough, we just bring along that bucket. IN CASE.

Try it :)

My baby is 21.5 months old!

Haha. Ok .. I have been neglectful .. I let 2 weeks slip by after she turned 21 months old.

Soon my little cheeky little girl will be TWO!! Time sure flies. And she's still into breastfeeding. Believe me, I've tried to wean the little bugger off. Haha. But since she is my very last baby, I'll wait it out.

Yay!

My girlie is home. 2 nights in the hospital. Everything is good. She'll be on long term preventive medication for her asthma. Should prevent another attack like this from happening.

She was a really good patient too. Stayed in bed the whole time. Heh.

Daddy was wonderful. He stayed w her those 2 nights. And made sure she was comfortable. He is the most awesome-st father in the world. I love my man. Heh.

My poor girlie

Emily has always had a sensitive nose .. I was hoping it'd get better as she got older but of course that hasn't happened.

She has been having the flu for a few days. And on Sunday, she was coughing non-stop. At night her cough stopped. And I realized it was because her chest was tight and she was breathless. The next morning, we brought her to the pediatrician and she was suspected to be asthmatic. And the pediatrician warded her cos her condition only improved slightly after being on the nebulizer.

So my dotty spent the night in hospital. With her Daddy. Today will be the 2nd day .. While she looks a whole lot better, the treatment entails her being on the nebulizer every 2 hours, then today it's every 4 hours .. Only when it's 6 hour intervals then she will be discharged. My poor baby. I wish I could be the one with her but I have Charlotte at home and she can't sleep without me.

We all miss her .. Thank goodness for FaceTime :)

Emily is 6!

My 3rd sweetie .. Emily Nicole, turned 6 today!

She has a thing for Princess Ariel. And she likes the colour, purple. And she's a creature of habit, so she wanted to wear her Disney Princess Ariel dress again. I'm perfectly fine with that. It's a lovely dress and she looks pretty in it.

Here are some pics taken w my iPhone.

Latest hangout

Our latest hangout is the airport. Terminal 3 to be exact. The girls love the slide there (called The Slide at T3) and Charlotte enjoys playing at the playground there as well. The shops there are pretty decent .. Love the Sanrio shop there. I'm there ogling their Hello Kitty stuff every time we are there. Haha!

So if you're sick of roaming the malls endlessly .. Try out the airport. Lotsa food there too!

One week break :)

The girls and I has a fabulous one week break. I had almost recovered fully from my nasty flu .. And I had the whole week planned out.

We went to the zoo, trawled the malls .. Did arts and crafts at home. Daddy took his girls down for a swim and also inline skating. And we all went hiking to the very lovely HSBC TreeTop Walk on Friday at the end of the holidays.

Very awesome week.

Brave

It was a school holiday yesterday. I was still slightly sick w the flu but didn't want the day to be a waste so I pressed on with the plans I made a week before.

I wanted to take them to watch Pixar's "Brave" .. I knew it would be an awesome movie.

We went down to Orchard Cineleisure and had lunch at BK then went in to watch the movie.

It was just the girls and me.

Charlotte is really well-behaved so I was confident she'd be ok in the theatre. I was right. She watched for a bit quietly. Then wanted me to nurse her and she fell asleep. I have conditioned my girls when they were babies to fall asleep regardless of their environment. So Charlotte had no problems napping.

Calista didn't really understand the movie (since she's only 3 plus) but she sat quietly and laughed at all the funny parts. She enjoyed herself for sure.

The movie was really good. The girls and I enjoyed it immensely. Daddy would've liked to come with us but he had to work that day. Bummer for him. He would've enjoyed the movie too.

We went shopping after that. I love walking around Orchard with my girls.

Hehe. Charlotte has this new way of grinning when I want to take a photo and I ask her to. It's darn funny. See the pics. She's really cheeky.

Happy 8th Birthday, my little American girl :)

On the 8th of July, Lauren turned 8 years.

Wow, I can't believe 8 years ago, I was in the States giving birth to her.

Lauren, insisted that she didn't want a sissy girly cake. She instead requested for a, get this, SPIDERMAN cake.

I was dumbfounded and tried to steer her towards mmmm, Barbie or Strawberry Shortcake or Disney Princesses .. Nope, she wouldn't budge.

Sigh.

So a Spiderman cake it was. Here are some pics.

Durians grow on trees

Yes, they do. Not in styrofoam boxes although personally, that's how I like them to be. We had been invited to go to a friend's family fruit plantation to pick durians and other fruit and man, it was really a fun and educational experience. And interesting too. The plantation was in Johor, Malaysia so we set off really early on Saturday morning to get there. We all went except my maid and Claudia who had to go to school (she was bummed).

Our friend was really nice. And informative too. He pointed out trees and what to do and not to do. And at the plantation, there was a small kampung house with a clean toilet and a sink to wash up. Very grateful for that.

The girls were covered up in long sleeves and long pants to prevent mozzies from biting. And mosquitoe patches and insect repellant was used.

Here are some pics. Lauren managed to find a durian all on her own. The girls really enjoyed the experience. And frankly speaking, I had never seen a durian tree before this. Or a mangosteen tree. Or a rambutan tree. Lol.

I was surprised no one was squeamish about trampling around in long grass with insects and mosquitoes and flies galore. They were happy to go traipsing around and explore and look at spiders and other insects.

We gathered a lot of durians. Daddy has been surviving on durians exclusively for the last few days. Haha.
